Workplace Hazardous Material Information System (WHMIS)

WHMIS training is a requirement for any employee handling or working around hazardous products. A hazardous product is any substance that meets the criteria specified in the Hazardous Products Act (HPA). WHMIS is workplace-specific, therefore, WHMIS certification received at places of employment other than UBC does not transfer over.

All new employees handling or working around hazardous products must enroll in the online WHMIS course. WHMIS training has two components.  The first is an online component through Moodle.  The second component is a lab practical training session. Visit the Course Registration webpage for more information.

Lab Design Guidelines

These guidelines should be followed as an aid to designing any laboratories on campus. If there are any questions or concerns in relation to the content, HSE can be engaged for further support.
