WHMIS and Chemical Safety!
Any person who has already completed WHMIS / Chemical Safety certification at the Okanagan campus prior to July 1, 2015 will have to take the new on-line version of the course (available below) and request a re-qualification certificate through the on-line platform. Once complete a new WHMIS & Chemical Safety course certificate will be sent to users. As of June 2015, the former Controlled Products Legislation (enacted December 31, 1987) was repealed and the new Hazardous Products Act and Regulations (HPA / HPR) came into effect for Canada. Under the new HPA/HPR, the content of the Workplace Hazardous Material Information System (WHMIS) has changed to align with the Globally Harmonized System (GHS) of hazard assessment and communication. This change will help standardize the way chemical hazards are classified and communicated globally which increases effectiveness and decreases costs to companies that produce, import, export or sell hazardous products.
We have integrated the Okanagan and Vancouver UBC Chemical Safety Courses into a single on-line course and a site specific practical session. Access to the course is through Moodle (below) with a Campus Wide Log-in (CWL) account.
